What To Wear?
I’m putting two answers on this page: One for “raves” and one for “festivals”. It’s hard to tell the distinction, and frankly, it doesn’t apply all the time. But I figured I should seperate it out just so you know :)

Help! I’m going to Beyond and I have no idea what to wear. Help? xoxo
Uhm, the basic idea is to.. Well, lets start here: Pick a theme. Some people just go with colors, so, like, everything they wear will be green or pink. Uhm, Milk-roses did a really cute edc outfit last year that was lady bug themed. A bunch of people use a ton of daisies to edc. Most people for beyond pick a Wonderland theme (alice, caterpiller, etc) but that may not be different enough, not unless you can think of a unique way to channel the movie/book :P But yeah - pick a theme, and then plan an outfit around that. A bikini-top, or cute shirt. Bikini bottom/shorts/skirts/tu-tus etc. Maybe fluffies if you have a pair. The important part however is picking a theme, wearing clothes you feel good in, and accessorizing. Hairpieces, ribbons, bows… cute jewelry, earrings, kandi.. other pieces that go with your theme. Wings? Tiara? And then make up. Bright, creative, expressive make up. You can do any facepaint designs that go nwith your theme, any, if you make sure your eyes still pop. Thats how to make any crazy make up design look good, in my opinion. So, maybe fake eyelashes or lots of mascara.
I can’t tell you what a good idea for a theme is. Thats something you have to be inspired to do. But good luck <3 Just wander through blogs and try to find some things that inspire you. Maybe a star/galaxy themed outfit that has lots of glitter. Maybe something a little ghoulish, like a zombie or something spooky. Maybe something from a song you love… So you could have a outfit with a big sun and a big moon and the words “You were the sun and the moon to me” written on you. Be creative. Be expressive. Be yourself :)

There isn’t anything that “makes” a raver. All the fashion and style you see on tumblr is only the current style, and not everyone wheres it :)
My tip to all my rave children was to dress as an extravagant version of yourself. I wore wings and glitter to all my first raves, there are kids who dress up all green and marijuana-leaf designs aha, I’ve seen a kid in a banana suit - wear whatever.
Rave clothing and fashion is stemmed not from the normal ideas of design, but of self expression and freedom. Wear whatever you’ve been dying to, to be crazy. It’s also a good way to show off who you are, and spark conversation. For example, a kandi necklace with a carebear on it can spark conversation with other carebear aficionados.
For your first rave, try to be true to yourself, and don’t worry about all of the major fashion. You don’t need pasties, gloves, or fluffies (legwarmers) to be a raver. Wear bright colored clothes(or all black, if thats your style too. A lot of people do that too and thats completely NORMAL and not as represented on tumblr), if youre a girl a bikini top works great! Or a t-shirt of something you love, or a cartoon you adored as a kid. If you don’t like what you already own, check our your nearest thrift store/goodwill/garage sales for some unique finds. The dollar store has gotten me a lot of accessories, like tiarias, tutus, wings, glowsticks, toys, glitter, and more. Most importantly - BE TRUE TO YOURSELF! The ravers are the weird kids, the misfits, and we all come together in this crazy unity and appreciate one another.

Everything else will come later. As you grow and expand your own rave fashion you’ll find specific pieces that call to you. DOn’t buy too much rave gear just to be “rave”, make sure it’s unique to one awesome raver - YOU!:)
